Begin with a conversation
about your AI system.

Whether you're preparing for regulatory scrutiny, responding to a procurement requirement, or building responsible AI practices before you're required to, the right starting point is a conversation.

Ready to certify
your AI system?

Safety Critical Labs conducts assessments for organizations at all stages of AI development, from early-stage integration through pre-launch certification and post-deployment surveillance. Every engagement begins with a conversation about your system, your timeline, and your regulatory context.

Not sure if you're ready to certify? Ask about a readiness assessment. A lower-commitment engagement that tells you exactly where you stand against the framework before committing to a full certification cycle.

What to expect

Common questions.

What do I need to prepare before starting?
The most important preparation is understanding your system boundary and having your test documentation organized. The Phase 1 applicability determination is designed to be conducted before your evidence package is complete. It tells you exactly what you need to submit for Phase 2.
Is the framework specific to spaceflight?
No. The framework was developed in spaceflight, where the regulatory gap was most clearly defined. But the requirement areas (AI-1 through AI-10) address failure modes that apply to any AI system in any safety-critical domain. The classification levels and tailoring process adapt it to your context.
What if my system doesn't pass?
Findings are graded as Pass, Conditional Pass (with defined remediation), or Fail. Conditional Pass findings come with specific remediation guidance and reassessment criteria. Remediation paths are built into the process. The goal is to help systems meet the standard, not to generate failures.
How is SCL different from a general AI audit?
An AI audit produces a report with observations and recommendations. An SCL assessment produces a formal determination against a published, citable standard with verifiable pass/fail criteria for each requirement. The certificate has a specific meaning: it doesn't claim your system is safe, it claims your system met the standard.
Will this satisfy a regulator?
Certification bodies and their marks gain regulatory recognition over time through demonstrated rigor and first-mover presence in regulatory processes. SCL is pursuing formal accreditation under ISO/IEC 17065. An SCL certificate provides a documented record of rigorous assessment against a published standard. That is the foundation regulators build on.
What's the cost?
Pricing reflects the value of the determination, not the cost of the audit labor. This is consistent with how UL and DNV approach certification pricing. Contact us to discuss your system and timeline and we'll provide a specific engagement proposal.
Can SCL certify systems outside the US?
Yes. Remote assessments are conducted for organizations worldwide. Evidence package review and most of the technical assessment can be conducted remotely. In-person assessment may be required for Safety-Critical systems depending on the nature of the system and the operational environment.
